New performance data compiled by Nielsen Sports SA confirms a defining year for premium local sports content, with flagship productions GIANTS and SuperSport MVP Talent Search delivering record audiences, strong repeat engagement, and broad national reach across linear television.
In a year marked by intensified content competition, premium South African sports storytelling proved its ability to cut through. Long-form documentary depth and aspirational talent-led entertainment formats both resonated strongly with viewers, reinforcing the growing appetite for authentic African sports narratives.
Together, these two properties highlight a breakthrough year in which local sports content delivered both scale and loyalty.
GIANTS Sets the Benchmark for Sports Documentary Storytelling
The first season of the five-part GIANTS docuseries, chronicling the lives and careers of Orlando Pirates players, emerged as one of the standout sports documentary successes of 2025.
Across 85 broadcasts, the series reached more than 1.5 million unique viewers, generating over 192 million minutes of total viewing. Strong repeat exposure reflected deep audience engagement, with viewers returning multiple times to connect with the series’ emotional, behind-the-scenes storytelling.
The performance reinforced the enduring demand for premium, locally produced documentary content that transforms sporting icons into cultural narratives and strengthens fan loyalty.
SuperSport MVP Talent Search Expands Reach and Broadens Audiences
Complementing the success of GIANTS Season 1, the inaugural edition of the SuperSport MVP Talent Search demonstrated the power of sports entertainment formats to expand audience reach and attract new viewer segments. According to Nielsen Sports SA Linear TV data (BRC TAMS 2025):

2,283,642 total unique viewers were reached across premier and repeat broadcasts.

The format also attracted a younger and more female-skewed audience profile, broadening the overall sports content footprint and reinforcing the versatility of premium local sports programming.
