Haem-O Biography – Artist Profile
Haem-O is a hip-hop artist on a mission to breathe life into the overlooked. Inspired by haemoglobin, the molecule responsible for carrying oxygen through the body, his name reflects his purpose: to carry hope, motivation, and inspiration to those who need it most.

Raised in the countryside of the Kingdom of Eswatini, where opportunities often felt distant and dreams difficult to reach, Haem-O developed a deep sense of resilience that now fuels his music. Through raw emotion, uplifting storytelling, and ambitious energy, he creates music for underdogs, people fighting to rise above their circumstances while holding onto who they truly are.

Born Vusi Sanele Mthethwa to a Swati mother and Zulu father, Haem-O’s musical journey began at an early age as the youngest leader in his church choir. He continued performing choral music throughout primary and high school before discovering hip-hop as a teenager. Growing up in a large family exposed him to a wide range of musical influences, shaping his versatile sound and ability to move effortlessly across different styles and emotions.

After high school, Haem-O relocated to Johannesburg, South Africa, where he began recording professionally and steadily carving out his place in the industry. Since then, he has worked with artists including Emtee, Buffalo Souljah, and Cleo Ice Queen, while also opening for major acts such as Cassper Nyovest and K.O. His song Mama Told Me was featured on the hit Netflix series Blood & Water, further introducing his voice and story to a wider audience.

Driven by purpose, authenticity, and the desire to inspire, Haem-O continues to build a catalogue rooted in perseverance, self-belief, and hope, proving that where you come from does not define how far you can go.
