Yay Abe And Liquideep Star In Anything Goes’ ‘Culture In Motion’ Film Ahead Of Its Biggest Summer Yet
A striking new 90-second film celebrates the intersection of music, art, and nightlife culture, opening a summer calendar featuring Tyla, Fatboy Slim, Keinemusik, Ultra South Africa, and Corona Sunsets.
Mzansi culture never stands still – it moves, evolves, and shapes what the world dances to next.
Anything Goes explores this relentless momentum through CULTURE IN MOTION, a new 90-second film capturing the collective energy and creative voices shaping the country’s nightlife universe. Featuring acclaimed visual artist Yay Abe, directed by Grant de Sousa, and with musical direction by Liquideep, the film brings painting, sound, and movement together to celebrate the communities behind Mzansi’s cultural footprint.
At its heart is a simple philosophy: creativity is community made visible. From the DJ booth to the dance floor, every shared moment contributes to cultural memories that outlast the music.
Cape Town-based visual artist and illustrator Russell Abrahams, better known as Yay Abe, brings this idea to life through neo-African pop art. Drawing inspiration from South Africa’s people, patterns, and places, his work reimagines everyday experiences through a bold, colourful lens. For CULTURE IN MOTION, Yay Abe turns that creative language toward the dance floor, translating the energy of South African nightlife into an original visual artwork celebrating the people behind the beat.
The film brings painting, sound, and movement together, capturing the dynamic exchange between artists and audiences that defines local dance floors. From the legacy of South African house and Afro House to Gqom and Amapiano, Mzansi’s sounds continue to move crowds worldwide.
For Anything Goes, CULTURE IN MOTION marks another milestone in a journey that began in 2003. Over two decades, the live entertainment promoter has brought international acts to South Africa while championing homegrown talent across festivals, tours, and cultural campaigns.
“Nothing in this industry stands still, and neither do we. South Africa has more cultures and sound in one place than anywhere I know, and that mix is what keeps producing what comes next. Every artist, brand, venue, team member, and fan on the dance floor has a hand in it. CULTURE IN MOTION is about that collective energy. We’ve spent two decades bringing the world to South Africa. Now we’re taking South Africa to the world,” says Shaun Duwe, Founder & CEO of Anything Goes.
