Ben September wrote on instinct, working quickly to build the early structure before the late-night drive back home.
“For me, songwriting usually starts with a feeling or a conversation I’ve had, and then I build around that emotion,” Ben September explains. “With this song, the lyrics came from reflecting on the tension that can exist when someone wants love but is still guarded.”
The second session brought in Prince Kaybee, who, while finishing separate material together, heard the unfinished track and helped modernize the production using the original stems. The final vocal performance was later captured with producer Xivo, completing what had become an organic, multi-layered creative process.
